System utilizes Freon cycle and includes boiler turbogenerator with heat exchanger, regenerator and thermal-control heat exchangers, low-pressure and boiler-feed pumps, and condenser. Exchanger may be of interest to engineers and scientists investigating new energy sources

Gun facilitates adhesive bonding of studs to surfaces

    Get PDF
Gun facilitates adhesive bonding of thermoplastic-backed studs to smooth, hard surfaces. Such studs can be used for mounting loads where defacement with drilled holes cannot be tolerated. These studs can be easily removed by softening the plastic bonding with heat from the gun

Limits of sympathetic cooling of fermions: The role of the heat capacity of the coolant

The sympathetic cooling of an initially degenerate Fermi gas by either an ideal Bose gas below TcT_c or an ideal Boltzmann gas is investigated. It is shown that the efficiency of cooling by a Bose gas below TcT_c is by no means reduced when its heat capacity becomes much less than that of the Fermi gas, where efficiency is measured by the decrease in the temperature of the Fermi gas per number of particles evaporated from the coolant. This contradicts the intuitive idea that an efficient coolant must have a large heat capacity. In contrast, for a Boltzmann gas a minimal value of the ratio of the heat capacities is indeed necessary to achieve T=0 and all of the particles must be evaporated.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

The effects of the proposed solar power satellite (SPS) operations on electronic equipment and systems by fundamental, harmonic, and intermodulation component emissions from the orbital station; and the fundamental, harmonic, and structural intermodulation emissions from the rectenna site were evaluated. The coupling and affects interactions affecting a wide spectrum of electronic equipment are considered. The primary EMC tasking areas are each discussed separately

First excited band of a spinor Bose-Einstein condensate

The analytical expression of the fractional parentage coefficients for the total spin-states of a spinor N-boson system has been derived. Thereby an S-conserved theory for the spinor Bose-Einstein condensation has been proposed. A set of equations has been established to describe the first excited band of the condensates. Numerical solution for 23^{23}Na has been given as an example.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure

Characteristic frequency of the magnetic radiation of spinor condensates

The magnetic radiation of the fully-condensed states of 23^{23}Na condensates have been studied. A narrow characteristic spectral line with a wave length proportional to N^(-2/5) (N is the number of particles) and with a probability of transition proportional to N^(17/5) emitted (absorbed) by the condensate was found. It implies that short wave radiation with a huge probability of transition can be obtained if numerous atoms are trapped. A new technique developed by the authors, namely, the analytical forms of the fractional parentage coefficients, was used to calculate analytically the matrix elements between the total spin-states.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure

Fungal Exposure to Meteorite Thin Sections: Developing an Experimental to Observe Biogeochemical Changes

    Get PDF
The Astromaterials Acquisition & Curation Office maintains collections of meteorite samples collected as part of the Antarctic Search for Meteorites (ANSMET) program. The chief goal of the curation department is to maintain these meteorites in pristine condition. The Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science (ARES) Directorate has implemented a microbial monitoring program for the meteorite collections that has resulted in the isolation of >100 fungal isolates [1], however it is currently unknown if these isolates could present danger to the collections through bioweathering or secretion of organic compounds. We grew a strain of Fusarium oxysporium isolated from nitrogen gas filters feeding the Meteorite Lab nitrogen gas in the presence of a H5 meteorite thin section to determine if this fungus has the capability of altering the mineral structure of this common meteorite. This first trial was to determine and understand the effects of Fusarium oxysporum growth on the iron content within H5 chondrites and evaluate what additional components are needed in the development of future trial runs. This experiment determined new considerations for handling samples, the nature of microscopic scans before and after the incubation period, and the quality of the samples utilized for the experiment. The results of this experiment were promising and warrant further investigation with a more refined process and timeline

Crop identification technology assessment for remote sensing (CITARS). Volume 6: Data processing at the laboratory for applications of remote sensing

    Get PDF
The results of classifications and experiments for the crop identification technology assessment for remote sensing are summarized. Using two analysis procedures, 15 data sets were classified. One procedure used class weights while the other assumed equal probabilities of occurrence for all classes. Additionally, 20 data sets were classified using training statistics from another segment or date. The classification and proportion estimation results of the local and nonlocal classifications are reported. Data also describe several other experiments to provide additional understanding of the results of the crop identification technology assessment for remote sensing. These experiments investigated alternative analysis procedures, training set selection and size, effects of multitemporal registration, spectral discriminability of corn, soybeans, and other, and analyses of aircraft multispectral data
